What is under eye filler?
Under-eye fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid treatments that can be used to treat volume loss and dark areas under the eyes.
Non-surgical and minimally invasive tear trough fillers are an effective way to treat wrinkles, under eye hollows and dark circles for a soft and natural effect.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are made from a clear gel that mimics the natural substance our body produces. They’re easy to smooth, less likely to clump, and have been shown to support collagen production in the skin, which plumps and smoothes skin over time.
How does under-eye fillers work?
Non-surgical and minimally invasive tear trough fillers are an effective way to treat wrinkles, under eye hollows and dark circles for a soft and natural effect.
It is important to distinguish dark circles caused by volume loss and/or genetics from dark circles caused by hyperpigmentation in the area. So, if you’re interested in improving the appearance of the area under your eyes, your doctor will be able to assess what’s causing the problem and recommend a combination of treatments that may include under-eye fillers.
What happens when tear trough fillers are injected?
The process of having an injected dermal filler is simple. First, your doctor will clean the surface of the tear trough with alcohol and apply ice to the area. Then, a numbing cream is applied to the area before the injections, making the procedure completely painless. After waiting a few minutes for the numbing cream to take effect, your doctor will inject several small fillers into your tear ducts using a small needle or a blunt-ended cannula (a thin tube).
The entire procedure usually takes less than an hour, there is no waiting or recovery time, and patients can return to their normal activities immediately afterwards.
After the procedure, your under-eyes will look filled immediately, but you may experience slight redness or swelling within the first 48 hours, which usually goes away on its own. Try not to sleep on your face or touch your eyes for the first 48 hours. If desired, you can use ice or cold compresses to help with any swelling.
How long are fillers effective?
The full effect of the fillers are noticeable after about two weeks. Fillers can last for several years but vary from person to person based on anatomy and the type of fillers used. On average, you may need to have an injection every 1-2 years to maintain the full effect of the filler.
Results
After the procedure, you will start noticing results immediately and then you will be better in just two weeks. Under-eye fillers deliver subtle, natural results that won’t make you look radically different. However, when the results take full effect, your under-eye area and your face in general will look more vigorous, refreshed and younger.
Under-eye fillers last longer when injected under the eyes compared to other parts of the face. Unlike the lips, forehead, and other parts of the face that are constantly in motion, the skin under the eyes remains largely in place, so results can remain effective for up to 12 months. The effects of repeated treatments tend to last even longer.
Will it look natural?
We’ve all seen ‘full-faced’ celebrities with puffy cheeks that don’t look like them anymore. This is what happens when the practitioner places too much filler in the wrong places without understanding the facial anatomy.
Fillers are products used to replace the volume we lose in our face as we age. If done with care and in proportion to the patient’s natural beauty, you will get natural-looking, age-appropriate results.
What if I don’t like the result?
It may take several weeks for under-eye fillers to settle. If you don’t like them after this time, they can be resolved by injecting hyaluronidase, which takes less than 24 hours to work. This means that if you are ever dissatisfied with the result, reverting to your old self is quick and easy.
