Patients who have had bariatric surgery, especially those who have lost more than 45 kg, often find themselves with “flat” skin on many areas of their body, including the face, arms, breasts, abdomen and thighs.
Body contouring following major weight loss are procedures performed by plastic surgeons to eliminate and/or reduce post-obesity excess.
Body contouring improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue and removes excess sagging fat and skin, resulting in smoother body contours and a normal appearance.
While body shaping can be done in a single session, it is usually done gradually under general anesthesia. Additional precautions will be required if the patient has a history of smoking, deep vein thrombosis or coagulation disorders, high body mass index, or other risk factors.
Common body contouring procedures include:
- Arm lift or brachioplasty.
- Breast lift or mastopexy.
- Stomach lift or abdominoplasty.
- A lower body stretch trims excess skin on the hips and thighs.
